How to Apply

All IELTS exams must be booked online and in advance. Before you apply, make sure you have a quality scan of your valid passport or PR card and your credit or debit card ready.

Step 1: Choose the type of test

You can take your test on a computer or with paper and pencil. Check with the organization you are applying to about which test you need.

There are two different types of tests:

  • IELTS Academic Exam: For people who want to study or train in higher education institutions or for professional registration.
  • IELT General Training Exam: For people who want to immigrate to Canada.

Step 2: Choose your test location

Step 3: Choose your test date

Decide on the best test date for you. Tests are offered 5 days a week, depending on the type and location.

Step 4: Book and pay for your test

Create your profile and complete the application process. Upload a high quality scan of either your current valid passport or your Permanent Resident (PR) Card. Follow these instructions to upload your ID document.

Pay online by credit or debit card or in person by cash at our office located at ILAC Vancouver, 688 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC.

Step 5: Check your confirmation and prepare

You will receive an automated confirmation and receipt immediately after you register and pay. Please check to ensure it is correct. If you have chosen the wrong type of test, you must contact the ILAC IELTS test centre within one (1) business day of booking. Changes to your paper-based test are subject to availability and a fee. Changes to your test date or location must be done at least 5 weeks before the test and are subject to a fee. Changes to your computer-delivered test must be done at least 7 days before your test and are subject to a fee. Read more about cancellations and refunds.

For Paper-based tests, you will receive a personalized confirmation within two business days. This will tell you all the details you need to know about the test. Please email us at: info@ilacielts.com if you do not receive this.

For Computer-delivered tests, you will receive a custom speaking test confirmation shortly before your test date.  Please email us at: info@ilacielts.com if you do not receive this.

Step 6: Get ready for your exam

To pass the IELTS exam, you need to demonstrate a high level of English in speaking, reading, writing and listening. Preparing for the exam by taking a course or doing practice tests is highly recommended. ILAC offers part-time, full-time and virtual IELTS preparation courses to prepare you for each section of the exam and give you the confidence to succeed.
